Tuck's Playroom Accessories

I volunteered to redecorate my nephew's playroom as a birthday present for him. He's turning two this month, where does the time go? We were on a very tight budget, basically trying not to spend any money and use either things we had laying around or things from Goodwill, etc. I'm going to start out by showing you a couple of the DIY projects that I did to save a little money. I had this lamp laying around in my garage (it was $1.99 at Goodwill) and decided to take it apart and "reinvent it." I wanted something a little funky and fun. So, I settled on this bright yellow valspar spraypaint.

I wanted to combine it with this glass lamp (also from Goodwill) to make it a little more interesting. I just used a long rod to connect all the pieces and then used the same electrical wires to put it back together.  The shade was also a Goodwill find for $0.99.

He also needed an end table for his new playroom. I found this one at Goodwill for $6.99! Works for me! So I primed it and spraypainted it white and used some white knobs I had laying in the garage. I also wanted to make this piece a little more unique...

So I found these placemats at Homegoods and decided to use them as a stencil for a fun design on the top of the table. (Thanks for the idea mom!)  They had lots of different patterns and they came in a pack of 4 for $6.99.  They are a thick felt like material.  I layed two placemats side by side on top of the table and sprayed it with yellow spraypaint making sure to get it in all the nooks and crannies. When it was still a little wet I pulled off the placemats and voila!

Stay tuned for the full room reveal!

Holy cow! That is really fabulous. Love the table idea. I've been trying to figure out what to do with the top of a bureau I have - think you have just inspired me to give your technique a try!

That table top is fabulous! I saw a similar project using a doormat, but a placemat is a better, more affordable solution. I love the yellow and white combo. you choose.
