The Office

This project has been a work in progress for a while now and we finally finished up yesterday by adding the final touches and finishing details.

Before, the room was a sea of green and stripes.  The built ins were beautiful and the wood was so rich, but  you couldn't see that for all the stripes.

So here is what we started out with....

So, we started by applying a fresh coat of paint.  Next, we did some de-cluttering and reworked the room using some things the client already had in her home.  The scale of the desk before was just too small so she found a new desk, on craigslist, that was just right.  It makes a huge difference when the furniture pieces are to scale in a room.  I purchased a few extra accessories to fill in the blanks.  Then, we took a trip to Mary Jo's and my client fell in love with the window treatment fabric.  So, that set the tone for the design of the room.  She is very handy and actually made the window treatments herself as well as painted the entire room.

She also refinished this antique chest with a fresh coat of cream paint.  She did an awesome job! (you'll see the "after" in the following pictures)

and drumroll please.....

After....

We flanked the sides of the built in with two mirrors the client already had in other areas of the home.  They aren't identical in size, but similar enough that they work.

The old ceiling fan was replaced with this sleek, modern chandelier from Overstock.

The main function of this room is to act as an office for my client's husband who just so happens to be a landscape architect (hence the plans on the desk :)  Although I was tempted to paint all that dark wood, I'm really glad we didn't.  It gives a really rich, masculine feel.

This chair is a family heirloom, so we had it reupholstered in a more neutral fabric so it could be used for many years to come.

Break it down:

Paint: Martha Stewart    Top:Dune    Bottom: Snail Shell
Light Fixture: Overstock
Fabric: Mary Jo's
Accessories: Homegoods

Like I mentioned before, the cost for this project was pretty low because we used things the client already had, we just repurposed them.  It always amazes me what a little paint, some de-cluttering, and accessorizing will do!
