Mossy Wreath & a winner!

Now on to the wreaths....

It's hard to find a good wreath without spending a fortune which is why I choose to make my own.  It seems the ones in the store always look kind of cheap and plasticy.  They are so easy to make and relatively inexpensive. 

 I have always had a thing for moss.  I just love the color, the texture, and the fact that it's natural.  It just looks so rich and classy to me.

So, I started out with one of these metal wreath forms from Hobby Lobby ($1.99)

I also purchased a grapevine wreath for $2, it was 50% off. 

Like this one...For this type of wreath you can get several uses out of this one wreath...

Next, I purchased some moss garland from a local floral supply store.  I did a quick google search and found this retailer, but I would check a local store first so you don't have to pay shipping.

So, start by cutting your garland to the same size as your metal wreath form.  Then, attach it to the wreath form.  I used hot glue and floral wire to make sure it stayed in place...

Now, It should look like this...

Now, cut your grapevine wreath apart using some heavy duty scissors or wire cuters.  I find wire cutters work the best.  Once you have several long pieces cut, wrap them around your moss wreath and attach them using more floral wire.

Now it should look like this...

You could leave it just like this or take it another step and add some floral stems to give it a little color and make it festive for spring.  I purchased these stems at Hobby Lobby and attached them using more floral wire and hot glue.  You could also just attach the stems using floral wire so you can switch them out as the season's change.  I think these would look awesome with some red holly berries at Christmas time!  Note to self: file that away for next Christmas :)  or even add some small fake eggs for easter, the possibilities are endless!
