Hiding cords behind your desk

Just popping in with a quick tip on how to hide those pesky cords behind your desk.  The cords behind my sewing table in my office were driving me crazy.  The outlet is located directly in the center of the wall behind the desk so you can't help but notice it.  The solution is super simple.

I started with a piece of foam board from the craft store.  You can sometimes find it at the dollar store too.  If the foam board isn't large enough for the area you need it for then you could also use mat board.

Then, I just painted it the same color as the wall and taped it to the back of the table with some frog tape.  You could also use small nails or staples to attach it, but I didn't want to mess up the finish on the table.

Since it's the same color as the wall it just blends right in.  I wish I had a before picture of how bad it looked with all the cords but I was in such a rush to cover them up I forgot to take one.

It looked a little something like this...Well maybe not that bad, but you get the idea.

Here it is with the foam board attached to the back

Check back tomorrow for a little makeover on a piece that fits right in this little nook.

Do you have any tips for hiding your cords?

  1. Great tip! I try to buy furniture with cord storage and surge protectors built in.

  2. Very smart! I usually put command hooks on the back of the desk to keep them from dragging on the floor, and out of site. I'm always willing to try anything to get rid of the cords showing though. Thanks for the tip! :)
