First off, have you seen Brigette's nursery on lay baby lay? It is absolutely adorable. She hit out of the park! I love that it's not your typical baby girl colors and that wallpaper is perfectly paired with those zebra prints, love it all.
See that pillow in the bottom right corner? When I saw it I knew I had to make my own version for my daughter's room. I was hoping to make it from all things I already had and I succeeded! I dug through my scraps of fabric and trim and found all the things I needed.
I started with this fabric from fabric.com. I had originally planned to use it for the headboard in her room but decided not to. I'm glad I held on to it because it worked perfectly for this pillow.
I also found this velvet material in my stash which I knew would be perfect for the letters. I just freehanded them on the backside of the fabric before cutting them out. Be sure to do them in reverse so they will be facing the right direction when you turn them over.
I cut them out and pinned them in place along with a little heart in the middle of the "D" (not pictured)
I wanted this pillow to have a homemade/handmade look so I wasn't too worried about it being perfect. I achieved the embroidered look by using a zig zag stitch to sew my letters in place. I would have loved to use a bold colored thread for some nice contrast, but it would have also shown more imperfections in my sewing so I went the more neutral route.
Once the letters were sewn on, I pinned my pom poms in place and sewed everything together. I went with an envelope closure on the back in lou of a zipper. Pom poms AND a zipper had me scared.
I love the touch of coral the little heart adds.
I'm slowly adding more touches of coral to her room, like with the shine sign I did. I'll be sharing a few more of the coral touches I've added soon. I like the girly feel of the pink and basically the room has been the same since we brought her home and I've got ants in my pants.
Love. Love. Love this pillow! I'm getting ready to redo my daughter's room and I might have to borrow this idea too. Thanks for the inspiration!
