There's nothing quite like a good tray to create the perfect vignette. I don't know how many times I've found myself saying, that could really use a good tray. It helps break up a long dresser or buffet and helps to group items together. They are also great for parties and serving guests. They can be used anywhere from a bathroom to a foyer. Really, they're so versatile. There are so many affordable options out there too, whether you choose to DIY or buy new you can't go wrong. I've even seen quite a few while thrifting, most just need a good coat of spraypaint. Here's a quick round up of some DIY trays.
If you don't want to spend a lot, I recommend this DIY lucite tray I made a while back. It's so inexpensive and very easy to customize.
Or buy an expensive plastic tray (I bought this one after Christmas for a few dollars) spray paint it, add fabric and glass and you are good to go. Did you know that Lowe's will cut glass for you for free? I took a piece of glass out of an old picture frame and had them cut it to size for me. See the post on this tray here.
I love this IKEA hack from Pam at Simple Details. You won't believe how easy and inexpensive this is to make.
If you have some scrap wood laying around and you're feeling crafty, check out Jennifer's tray.
how cute is this tray from two twenty one?
or just update a tray with some studs like this one for some nice texture.
So what do you think? Do you use trays in your own home for decorating? Seen any great DIYs?
I love trays so much too. I don't have a lucite one yet though, but I think I will have to get one ;)
ReplyDeleteHi lovebug, thanks for including me in your roundup! I was searching for a tray this weekend for a bar cart I just put together but didn't really find what I was looking for. Am heading over to check out your lucite DIY now!
ReplyDeleteI went to a couple estate sales this weekend and picked up a lucite tray that fits perfectly on the back of my toilet. Now to make a cute liner for it. I'm thinking something with zebras! I love the idea of adding studs to the lucite tray. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love trays and have more than I can use, but can't seem to resist when I come across a great one! I remembered your project and have an acrylic frame that I picked up at the thrift store lying in wait..I really like the gold studs on the last one! Hmm....
ReplyDeleteI love lucite trays! Even better when you can get the look by DIY'ing your own ;) xo Kristin
ReplyDeleteThanks for the sweet mention! I wanted to copy your lucite, no luck yet, all of those frames at my Hobby Lobby were cracked. :( They're one of my favorite accessories, and pillows, of course!
