This is not a sponsored post, I just wanted to share my experience with Behr Marquee since a few of you have asked about it and some of you may be wondering about it. I was intrigued by it's claims of no priming and one coat coverage. That sounds like a dream come true to me! So I picked up a quart and crossed my fingers. The color I chose is called magnet.
As you can tell from the before picture it was not in the best shape and the finish was a little slick.
I wiped everything down and got it really clean and then applied my first coat. I could tell immediately that I was going to need more than one coat, but overall the coverage was pretty good especially considering that I didn't prime it. The bottom left corner was still a little wet so it looks a little blotchy.
and a little close up...
After I applied the second coat it was perfect. Here you can see the finished product.
I used the same paint on the bathroom cabinets as well.
All in all I was pretty pleased with it. The coverage wasn't one coat, but still pretty good. It is a little pricey for a quart (around $20), but I was able to paint the whole bed (headboard, footboard, and rails) and the bathroom cabinets and there's still paint leftover. So when you think about it that way it was a pretty good investment. And since we are on the subject of painting, we used Valspar Ultra Paint and Primer in One for the walls (color matched to Sherwin Williams Knitting Needles) and it worked really well. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it covered. We did one coat on the trim and pretty much one coat with the roller. We did touch up a few areas, but it was pretty much just one coat coverage.
Do you have a go to paint?

that's awesome and a great price for the amount of work! :) love the bed- i noticed it right away in the makeover!
I can't believe you got all that painted with a quart! good to know!
Lately I've been using Benjamin Moore paints and the have been loving them! This looks pretty great though - I love no priming!
That is such a great color! I've always used the Behr paint+primer just because HD is convenient, so I'll have to try this one. The girls are making me want to try Ben Moore as well, though!
I'm curious -- how glossy is the semi-gloss in person? It looks more matte in the photos. I really want to do a satin finish on my bathroom cabinets, but Marquee only comes in matte, eggshell and semi-gloss. :(
Thanks Jennifer! I love no priming too, if it saves me time I'm all for it! I definitely need to try Benjamin Moore, I've heard so many great things about their paint.
I know, and still some left for future projects!
Thanks so much Cassie! It was a great find!
Love that color!!
I just recently discovered your blog and was particularly interested in this post. I have two questions. (1) Now that it's been a while, how has the paint held up? (2) What did you use to apply the paint (brush, roller)?
It has held up great! I used a brush for the whole thing because there were so many grooves and nooks.
Thank you!
It does come in Satin! It's in the HD stores. The entire line is in almost all the locations.
I'm looking for a gray paint for our bedroom and vanity and looked for all the grays I've seen online that I liked. This one included. I never can find the ones people have posted about. Can't find Magnet at Behr? This looks to be a fairly recent post, yes?
Oops, found it online! Didn't know Marquee had its own color line... :)
