As most of you know, a lot of the furniture in our home is from Goodwill, Craigslist, or even the side of the road! So when my parents passed down my granny's antique highboy to us we were elated. I love that it has family history and will hopefully be passed down to future generations. It wasn't in great shape when we got it. It had been through several moves and even lived in my room when I was a teenager. So needless to say, it needed some work. Here's where it started.
Structurally it was actually ok. It was just pretty beat up. So I filled all the nicks and dings with wood filler and made sure to sand everything down really well. I also filled in the holes for the drawer pulls since I was planning to replace them. Then I primed it and finished it with three coats of navy paint (HGTV Home Anchors Aweigh from Lowes) If you are looking for a good navy, I really like this one. It's not too dark and not too royal blue. Just a good true navy blue.
And here it is after! I replaced the old pulls with something a little more modern. I found these at Hobby Lobby and scooped them up when they were 50% off. I actually ordered them online because they didn't have enough available in the store. So if you don't have a Hobby Lobby near you can order them here. I would recommend ordering more than you need in case some of them are damaged. That's my only complaint about Hobby Lobby's knobs. They are pretty and cheap, but they can be a little off sometimes.
This room is almost done! Just a few more DIY projects to go!
