Dining Room - Linear Lantern

When we first got married we used several pieces of furniture from my husband's bachelor pad.  One of those things was our dining room table.  I gave it a facelift and even added glass to the top (you can see that DIY here) and it worked for several years.  However, once we had kids we realized the glass wasn't going to be best for us.  So we purchased a deeply discounted table from the damaged/return section of Basset furniture.  And you know how that goes, once you change one thing it sets off a domino effect.

We use our formal dining room for my office, so we wanted this room to seat as many people as possible.  In order to do that, we ended up switching out our old chairs for these (also found here).  I really liked the texture of the rattan paired with a more modern silhouette.

We also added these blackout curtain panels.  They are such a great weight, they're double wide, and they're wipeable!  With little ones, they get touched with dirty little fingers several times a day and I've found that most of the time I can wipe them clean.

And lastly we switched out our old light (which I still love) for this linear lantern.  It's a knock of a much pricier version, but I think it looks almost identical.  The thing that sold me on this was the scale,  The new table was much larger than our previous table and it ended up making the old light look out of place.  I considered adding two lights above the table, because I love that look, but it would have gotten pricey to rewire it and purchase two lights.

When you are standing in the kitchen, you can see the island lights, the living room light, and the dining room light so I wanted to make sure everything coordinated.  I ended up going with the polished chrome and black finish and I really think that helped tie the black living room light and the polished chrome pendant lights together.

One of the best parts about switching our light out, for me anyway, was that when I originally ordered the light it arrived damaged.  It wasn't a big deal, but I called customer service to see what could be done and they told me to keep it and they would send me another one at no additional charge!  I was shocked.  My sister just moved into a new home and we were able to fix the light and make it work in her dining room.  Next time I'm over there I'll take a few pictures so I can show you how it looks in her home as well.  Hope you all have a great weekend!
